Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has contributed $5 million to a super PAC backing Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, according to a campaign finance filing released on Wednesday.
The donation was made in May to V-PAC, a political action committee supporting Ramaswamy’s bid to become the next governor of Ohio.
Musk and Ramaswamy, who sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 before suspending his campaign and endorsing Donald Trump, were previously chosen to jointly lead the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, Ramaswamy stepped down from the role on the day of Trump’s inauguration. At the time, media reports suggested disagreements between him and Musk contributed to his departure.
Responding to the speculation during an interview with Fox News, Ramaswamy dismissed claims of a fallout.
“Incorrect” to say he and Musk did not get along, he said, adding that they had “different and complementary approaches.”
Soon after leaving DOGE, Ramaswamy launched his campaign for Ohio governor and quickly secured endorsements from both Musk and President Donald Trump through social media.
The entrepreneur, who founded a pharmaceutical company, clinched the Republican nomination for the Ohio governorship in May. He is now set to face Democratic candidate Amy Acton, a former state health official, in what is expected to be a closely contested election.
Although Musk announced in May 2025 that he intended to scale back his political donations after leaving DOGE, he has since resumed major political spending, contributing millions of dollars to Republican causes, including the latest $5 million donation to the super PAC supporting Ramaswamy.
