Paul Pelosi, the husband of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with a misdemeanour hit-and-run offence following a traffic collision involving a parked vehicle in Napa County, California.

According to prosecutors, the 86-year-old was driving a brown convertible in Yountville on July 3 when his vehicle struck a legally parked car along the roadside.

Authorities said Pelosi briefly stopped after the crash but allegedly left the scene without providing the information required by law. The parked vehicle was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.

The Napa County Sheriff’s Office also stated that there was no indication Pelosi had consumed alcohol before the incident.

Prosecutors charged him with a misdemeanour for allegedly failing to stop and exchange information after causing property damage, as required under California law. He also faces an infraction for allegedly making an unlawful turn.

Court records show Pelosi is expected to appear before the court on August 14.

The latest charge comes nearly four years after Pelosi pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2022.

Following that conviction, he received a sentence of five days in jail and three years of probation. He served part of the jail term, with the remaining time converted to a courthouse work programme after receiving credit for good behaviour.

As part of the sentence, Pelosi was ordered to pay fines and restitution, complete a three-month alcohol education programme, and install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle, requiring a breath test before it could be started.

In 2022, Pelosi also survived a violent hammer attack after an intruder broke into the couple’s home in San Francisco, leaving him with serious injuries.
