Argentina Not Facing Ban From World Cups Despite Petition To Disallow From Tournaments, FIFA Confirms

FIFA has refuted appeals made to have Argentina banned from future World Cups, despite an alleged petition to disallow them from gaining over 23 million signatures in the aftermath of the country’s controversial conduct during the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentina team, who lost the World Cup to Spain on penalties, have faced widespread criticism for the behaviour of some players both during and after their final victory. Several of their squad turned their backs as Spain captain Rodri lifted the trophy while celebrating at New York New Jersey Stadium.

Lisandro Martinez defended that turn of the backs as an accidental act, but Argentina’s squad remains subject to an investigation by the world football governing body.

FIFA is looking into possible breaches by both their players and staff for the incident, which they’re looking to treat as individual responsibility rather than sanctioning a nation.

Argentina is guaranteed qualification in the 2030 World Cup; that much is established, as the six nations hosting will be pre-qualified from participation, including Argentina.

Joined by the nation that inflicted an agonizing final on them, Spain, along with Portugal and Morocco, the two South American giants and a pair of Europeans, will each host an opening ceremony match, and Argentina’s designated opening match location will be Buenos Aires.

All of the football world’s eyes may look to what Lionel Messi does next after 2026, who would be 43 if he were to make another World Cup appearance, but 2030 will be for young talents after a number of players such as Nicolas Otamendi announced their retirement from national football after 2026.
