Google has begun implementing higher Google One subscription prices for existing customers in Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria, following the company’s latest review of its cloud storage charges.
From August 26, existing subscribers in the three African countries who pay through Google Play will start seeing the new rates when their plans renew. The same date applies to customers with annual subscriptions purchased through Apple’s App Store.
The latest adjustment also covers Pakistan and Turkey, bringing the number of countries affected by the price increase to five.
New customers in the affected markets have already been paying the revised rates since July 27, while existing monthly subscribers who use Apple’s App Store began moving to the new prices from August 23.
Google said the extent of the increase depends on the subscription package and the currency used in each market.
Nigerian subscribers face higher charges
In Nigeria, the 100GB Google One plan has increased from ₦1,900 to ₦2,950 per month, representing an increase of about 55%.
The 200GB Standard plan has also moved from ₦2,900 to ₦4,400 monthly, an increase of nearly 52%.
The revised prices are reflected on Apple’s Nigerian App Store, where the 100GB plan is listed at ₦2,950 per month and the 200GB option costs ₦4,400.
For subscribers who maintain the 200GB plan for 12 months at the monthly rate, the annual cost will rise from ₦34,800 to ₦52,800. That represents an additional ₦18,000 over a year.
Google One offers users extra storage that can be used across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.
Google provides up to 15GB of free storage for standard accounts, while users who need more space can purchase one of its Google One plans.
Different payment methods have different dates
The implementation of the new prices depends on how subscribers pay for their plans.
Customers paying through Apple’s App Store on a monthly basis began seeing the higher rates from August 23. Google Play subscribers and customers with annual Apple subscriptions will be charged the revised prices when their plans renew on or after August 26.
Google said customers using Google Play who do not wish to continue at the higher price must cancel their subscriptions by August 25.
Cancelling a plan does not immediately remove the benefits. Subscribers will continue to have access to their paid storage until their current billing period ends.
However, Google warns that customers who have more data stored than the free 15GB allowance could eventually experience restrictions on services such as Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos once their paid storage expires.
Latest increase follows previous African price hikes
The latest adjustment marks another round of Google One price increases across African markets.
In February 2025, Google introduced a broader price revision covering 18 countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt and Tanzania.
Nigeria and Egypt have now been included in two consecutive rounds of price increases, while Algeria is among the African countries affected for the first time in this latest adjustment.
Google has also expanded the features attached to its subscription services, increasingly combining cloud storage with paid artificial intelligence offerings.
In Nigeria, Google One packages now provide storage alongside access to additional Gemini AI capabilities and larger storage allocations on selected plans.
For existing customers in Nigeria, Egypt and Algeria, the immediate impact of the latest adjustment is straightforward: subscribers will pay more to retain their current Google One plans when their next eligible renewal date arrives.
