Brighton & Hove Albion won for the third time in five Premier League games this season with a 3-0 victory over Reigning Champion Arsenal at the Amex Stadium to end the Gunners’ nine-game winning streak in the Premier League.
The Seagulls, who had threatened early on, broke the deadlock just after the half-hour mark when Pascal Gross curled a wonderful strike from the edge of the box into the bottom corner past David Raya, who stood little chance.
Bukayo Saka had a chance to restore parity before half-time after Arsenal broke on the counter-attack, but he shot straight at Bart Verbruggen.
Brighton put the game beyond the visitors’ reach when Charalampos Kostoulas made a fine run outside the box and rifled his low shot into the far corner past the diving Raya.
The hosts continued to control proceedings after the break and doubled their advantage when Gross again swung in a pinpoint corner kick from the left that Chema Andrs met with a strong downward header into the bottom corner for his first Brighton goal.
Brighton kept up the pressure and were awarded another set-piece when Gross swung in another fine corner kick from the left, but Andrs could not get his header on target.
The visitors, who were hanging onto hopes of a consolation goal, threw everything forward, but Verbruggen saved well from Havertz while Raya kept the hosts from scoring a fourth.
