Aston Villa secured a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur to leave Spurs still in search of their first win of the new Premier League campaign and further under the pump for manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Tottenham started the season without either a win or a goal to show, but they were creating some openings early. Zion Suzuki made three good stops to keep out Savio and Archie Gray while Emiliano Buendia almost put Villa ahead at the other end.
However, Villa took the lead just before the break when Johan Manzambi scored from close range after Boubacar Kamara’s shot was spilt.
De Zerbi sent on Mohamed Kudus after the break in a bid to change things around, but Villa were still creating threats. Kinsky turned away a Nicolas Jackson shot when he found himself clean through before Tottenham thought they had equalized, only for that to be disallowed for offside.
Jackson scored into the bottom corner despite having Kinsky rushing out to him, and Buenda then went spectacularly high into the top corner with a fine 25-yard shot.
Conor Gallagher scored late on for Tottenham with a deflected finish from close range before Jan Paul van Hecke grabbed his second in the dying moments, but Villa held on for the win.
Tottenham are now at a standstill with the international break giving them a chance to regroup.\
