Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight clash has been plunged into jeopardy just days after the pair finally agreed to face each other.
The all-British fight has been lined up for December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and will be on World-wide Telecast by Netflix. There are allegations over the rights of promotion that have led to doubts whether or not the bout will go forward.
UFC president and Zuffa Boxing head honcho Dana White was asked if he’d like to see the fight take place at a boxing event in London on Saturday and said he wasn’t sure if it would.
“I don’t know,” said White, asked about the fight, and unsure as to whether Wednesday’s news conference was still scheduled.
The issue surrounds White’s interference with the promotion of the event. Joshua’s veteran promoter Eddie Hearn says the contract of the boxer bars White and TKO from taking a promotional role.
Fury revealed this week that a similar clause had been taken out of his contract to enable White to get involved.
Fury later claimed that both Joshua and Hearn were trying to back out of the fight, although Hearn refuted the rumour and sent a strange message on social media.
Still showing on Netflix on Saturday, but the contract battle is far from settled.
As the first promotional activity is planned for Wednesday, the heavyweight blockbuster has yet another obstacle to overcome before the two fighters get together in December.
