FIFA president Gianni Infantino has supported the idea of making further payments to all 211 member associations, and they are set to be discussed at the upcoming FIFA Council meeting on October 15.
In a letter to the six continental confederation presidents, Infantino wrote that he would go for “the maximum amount of incremental funding that can be prudently provided” but clarified that no specific number had been sanctioned.
The budget is in line with demands from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani for FIFA to give each member association $10 million or more in the 2027-30 cycle. The proposed pay-out would total approximately $2.1 billion.
Infantino also stood by his now-defunct FIFA Forward Enterprise plan that had come under criticism for its reliance on private investment into the organisation’s commercial rights.
“Last commercial proposal, now resiled, was supposed to allow FIFA to invest even more in football,” Infantino wrote.
The funding proposals are to be further consolidated by the secretary general of FIFA, Mattias Grafström, before they are considered by the council at its October meeting.
Infantino intends to run for a new term as FIFA president in the FIFA election set to take place in March 2027. FIFA revealed that Infantino will be running following criticism over his decision to cancel the commercial strategy.
