Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is expected to be sidelined for up to two months after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, a major setback for the franchise’s promising start to the 2026-27 NBA season.
The All-Star guard was in excellent shape, as Minnesota went 3-1 with him averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists through four games.
Edwards set a franchise record with 133 points in his first four games for the Timberwolves.
NBA insider Shams Charania, who said this Tuesday that the 25-year-old will have the surgical intervention after he kept on playing despite feeling pain in his right knee.
Since acquiring LaMelo Ball over the summer, the injury has left Minnesota counting heavily on its upgraded supporting cast. Ball is averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 assists per game, while Jaden McDaniels, Terrence Shannon Jr., Ayo Dosunmu and Jonathan Kuminga have all chipped in with scoring.
During Edwards’ absence, Dosunmu is projected to inherit the starting shooting guard spot, while rookie Isaiah Evans is expected to see an uptick in playing time.
Last year, Edwards sat out 21 games, and Minnesota went 12-9 with him on the bench.
The Timberwolves will look to build on their early success in their quest for their franchise-building star.
