Democratic Governor Wes Moore has secured another term in office after defeating Republican challenger Dan Cox in Maryland’s gubernatorial election, according to a CBS News projection on Tuesday.
Moore, who became the state’s 63rd governor after beating Cox in the 2022 election, will serve a second term. He also made history as Maryland’s first Black governor.
Ahead of the election, Moore told CBS News Baltimore that his administration intended to address issues left unresolved during his first term.
“I wouldn’t be running for reelection if I wasn’t exclusively focused on the people of Maryland,” Moore told the station last month.
He outlined several priorities for his next four years, including reducing the cost of living, tackling rising energy bills, strengthening the economy through increased investment and business opportunities, reducing government spending and maintaining Maryland’s national profile.

At a debate with Cox last month, Moore defended his record in office, pointing to the establishment of nearly 60,000 businesses and a decline in crime to record-low levels as some of his administration’s achievements.
