35 cyclists have been selected to represent Nigeria at the second African Track Cycling Championships to be held in Abuja from Thursday to July 17. According to CFN technical director Bashir Mohammed, he explained that the cyclists were selected from the senior and junior teams camping in Abuja

“They’ve been doing intense training at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium velodrome for over four months,” he said, adding that the cyclists would compete in multiple events of the championship.”

The 35 cyclists will be divided into two, 17 cyclists for the junior teams consisting of 11 men and six women, and the remaining 18 cyclists represent the senior category consisting of 10 men and eight women. The two teams are said to compete with 20 countries.

“We are ready for the championship and it is good that it is taking place in our country, where we will participate in all 11 medal competitions,” said the federation official, assuring that the 35 cyclists are prepared for the competition.”

The first championship was held in Abuja, Nigeria in July 2019 and nine countries competed. 21 cyclists represented Nigeria on both teams and Nigeria won 51 medals consisting of 21 gold, 18 silver, and 12 bronze medals to emerge as the championship winners. Egypt finished second, Morocco third, and Burkina Faso fourth

We wish Nigeria all the best for the upcoming cycling championship.
