After testing positive for COVID-19, US President Joe Biden is resting alone at the White House.
The 79-year-old is experiencing “very mild symptoms,” according to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, but will continue to carry out all of his duties despite being fully inoculated and having received two booster doses.
She added that the president was receiving Paxlovid, an antiviral medication. In a tweet, Mr. Biden claimed to be “doing great” and “keeping busy.” His wife, First Lady Jill Biden, asserted that her covid test was negative. The president will continue to work alone following White House policy and participate in meetings through the phone and Zoom, according to Ms. Jean-Pierre.
Mr. Biden was deemed “fit for duty” by his doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who also described him as “healthy” and “vigorous.” Mr. Biden is not the first US president to experience Covid; the previous president, Donald Trump, had to be hospitalized in October 2020 after contracting the virus while in office.
