It is a prerequisite that before handling a job, the risk factors which the job entails should be checked and necessary types of equipment to guarantee safety should be made available. A certain man named Mallam Bala and his son, Sanusi Bala drowned in a well at Sabon Garin Buchi, in Wudil LGA Kano state, whilst trying to drain water from a well.

Saminu Abdulahi, the spokesperson of the police force of Kano state attested to this tragic incident. According to Abdullahi, they got a distress call, informing them of the incident, and some policemen were immediately dispatched to the area. The deceased man and his son were contracted to drain the well, which they did but unfortunately, the man’s son went back inside the well to tidy up some things and then got trapped. The father seeing the situation of his son, hurriedly went back inside to save him but ended up trapped too.

The Policemen on getting there were able to bring them out, but due to lack of air they died

Abdullahi said, “We received an emergency call from Wudil Fire station at about 11:30 a.m from one Isma’ila Idris that two men had been trapped inside a well. We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:33 a.m.

“A father and his son were called to drain a well. They had successfully drained it. But, the son went back into the well to clear it when he was trapped and suffocated.

“His father went after him to rescue him when he also got trapped and suffocated due to the lack of oxygen inside the well”.

We pray that may the departed souls rest in peace.
