Many United fans were surprised that Casemiro was benched in Manchester United’s match against Arsenal, as newly signed Anthony featured in the match and also scored a goal.
Erik Ten Hag attributed his reason for benching Casemiro to Casemiro not being familiar with his system and style of playing, and he isn’t ready to start playing yet until he gets familiarised with his system.
According to Ten Hag, Casemiro is new to the team, and still isn’t very versed with his style of playing, and has to get used to it.
Asked about Casemiro not starting against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, Ten Hag told Sky Sports:
“He is new in the team, he has to adapt to the team. He has to get used to my way of playing football. The other thing, Scott McTominay is playing really well.”
The reason why Anthony featured in the match, despite being newly signed is that he was once under Ten Hag’s coaching in Ajax. So he is familiar with all his styles.
