Due to the death of England’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Premier League officials announced on Friday morning a compulsory break this weekend. All weekend fixtures were postponed in honor of the late queen.
Arsenal held a moment of silence before the start of the second half, of the Europa League against Zurich. The same applied to Manchester United’s against Real Sociedad. A meeting was later held by the premier league officials, to decide if they are postponing matches or not. They ended up postponing all weekend fixtures as a tribute to the late queen
Manchester United have announced that they’ll resume football activities on Thursday, meaning that their match against Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova will hold, after meeting with relevant governing bodies.
“United can confirm that Thursday’s #UEL visit to Sheriff Tiraspol will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday,” the club said in an official statement on Friday.
“Match arrangements will remain the same for fans who are traveling to support the team in Chisinau.”
Tiraspol is no small club, as they defeated Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk in the group stages of last season’s champions league. And they already started the Europa League with a 3-0 win. Manchester United will have to be wary of this club because they lost their match with Real Sociedad.
