It’s no news that Ronaldo was suspended from the Manchester United team, after he refused to come in as a substitute, in United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
He angrily went down the tunnel before the final whistle, Ten Hag reacted to this by suspending him from United’s league match against Chelsea. While many people have come out to blast the player for being childish, there are still some who believe that Ronaldo’s anger was justified, considering the way he’s been treated at the club.
Rio Ferdinand, speaking on this has said that he wouldn’t be happy as a player with what Ronaldo did, he would probably have asked him why he did that. Ten Hag should have managed the situation more wisely considering that he’s dealing with Ronaldo.
Ferdinard added, that Ronaldo should be treated differently from other players. Ferdinard also said they don’t support what Ronaldo did, but due to his reputation, he shouldn’t be treated that way.
He further concluded that the team should understand that he is 37 years old, and does not have a lot of time in football again.
Speaking on BT Sport, he sympathized with his former teammate, saying: “I wouldn’t have been happy as a player. Ronaldo mentioned he would have handled things differently.
“Any emotions attached to it take control. I probably would have been in the queue asking him about it.
“There’s always another side to it. When you’re dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo, he’s Ronaldo.”
Ferdinand added: “The way of treating him is different from everybody else. Communication. That’s probably the first time in his life where that’s not upheld by the manager.
“I’m not saying he was right but there are special players sometimes in a squad that things work differently for.
