The absence of a prosecution witness has temporarily halted the trial of the former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for reported money laundering at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, 26 October 2022.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission -EFCC, had initially arraigned Mr. Fani-Kayode on a five-count charge of money laundering and criminal breach of trust back in 2016.

According to the crimes commission, the minister had received 26 million naira from the Office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki (retd), and used it for a media campaign, contrary to Section 15 (2) (b) of Money Laundering Act.

Fani-Kayode had however pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail with the sum of 50 million naira and one surety in like sum.

When the case was brought up on Wednesday, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Farouk Abdullah, told the law court that the business of the day was the continuation of the third prosecution witness’s cross-examination by the defense team.

Abdullah also added that the cross-examination would be taking place because the witness was indisposed.

Justice John Tsoho then adjourned the case till December 7 for the cross-examination of the third prosecution witness.
