Despite the announcement of a ceasefire last week, the World Health Organization reports that neither food nor medicine has reached the Tigray area of Ethiopia.
According to the United Nations, a humanitarian blockade in Tigray put 90% of the population at risk, and Ethiopia has been accused of using starvation as a weapon of war there.
According to WHO Director Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, “nothing is moving.”
He said that preventable diseases and famine were killing millions.
Dr. Tedros, a Tigrayan, urged for the restoration of banking, communications, and other essential services.
He claimed that for two years, six million people had been cut off from the outside world as if they didn’t exist.
Food and medication were getting to Tigray, according to an Ethiopian official, who also claimed that Dr. Tedros was attempting to undermine the peace pact.
In certain regions, he claimed, telecom and energy service had been re-established.
