Residents of Awka in Anambra State, South-East of Nigeria had today, Friday, December 8, 2022, shunned the sit-at-home order given by the self-proclaimed Nnamdi Kanu’s disciple, Simon Ekpa. Awka is the capital city of Anambra state and it was observed that residents of the town had gone about their normal business despite the directive issued by Ekpa.

Ekpa, who is the self-proclaimed spokesperson for Biafra, had ordered a five-day sit-at-home exercise in the five southeastern states of the country, namely: Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi.

However, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, through his spokesman, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had countered the Ekpa’s order, asking all IPOB faithful to ignore the directive as he never authorized it.

Several Igbo groups such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and pro-Biafra group: Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, had also urged Igbo indigenes to ignore the sit-at-home order, tagging the directive as an anti-Biafra agitation that does not serve the interest of the people.

But Ekpa had insisted on the sit-at-home order and warned Biafrans to comply with the directive in order to avoid becoming victims of circumstance.

However, there have been movements at the popular Aroma Roundabout, Unizik Junction, and Eke Awka market in Awka. Filling stations, shopping malls, and shops were also fully open at the time of this report.
