Hardly a day gets by without hearing about issues of insecurity in Nigeria, there is no state in Nigeria, that is devoid of these ills, every state in Nigeria is plagued by these ills, and the negative effect of this is that this has scared potential tourists from Nigeria, and even Nigerians are traveling out to seek better opportunities thereby leading to brain drain.
Three Cult Members of the Icelander cult group, and their gang leader, were killed in a gunfight in the Abarikpo community in Ahoada East L.G.A of Rivers State.
Reports have it that, members of the alleged cult group stormed the community around 2 am, to look for their leader, Bright Ejike, popularly known as “Borokiri” who was accused of converting their arms and ammunition to his personal use, members of the community all locked their doors while they heard the fracas between Borokiri and his group.
According to the source, Some of the cult boys were able to discover where their leader was hiding Borokiri on sighting his cult members opened fire on them, killing two of them, Borokiri was intercepted by some policemen, and he opened fire on them, he was later shot by the policemen.
The source stated, “The cult boys have been having some disagreements among themselves. They shot themselves when one of the groups discovered the hiding place of their leader who collected all their arms. The unit leader killed two of the boys. Borokiri was hiding between Ogbo and Abarikpo in Ahoada East. Some persons in police uniforms intercepted him. So he opened fire on them and they shot him dead.”
The Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Force, Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident, according to her, her men trailed Borokiri to his hideout, and he shot at the police officers who in turn fired shots at him, she also disclosed that they’ve been able to restore calmness to the community, while investigations are still ongoing to apprehend the rest of the cult members.
Iringe- Koko stated, “I can confirm that three persons were killed. One of them is the unit leader of the cult group. But as we speak, there is calm in the community now because our men are patrolling the area. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident and apprehend the suspects.’’
All these societal ills have plagued our nation, making it an unsafe Haven for its citizens, there’s hardly a day when you don’t get to hear about these issues in Nigeria. We’ve had several cases of cult clashes and several arrests have been made but yet the issue of Cultism still ravages the country. The Government should find ways and measures to see if the issue of Cultism is brought to the barest minimum or ways to even eliminate it.
