Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, has stated that the conviction of his Campaign Organization’s Director-General, Dr. Doyin Okupe, for money laundering will not deter him from running for President of Nigeria in 2023.
On Monday, Obi disclosed this at a meeting with media at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Council Secretariat.
The former governor of Anambra State declared that he was unfazed by the conviction and will let the legal system proceed as intended.
He said he was just hearing about it and he is continually analyzing everything that comes out of the Court. He believes in the rule of law and It will not demoralize him.
“In my life, I have never stayed where they dropped me, otherwise, I would’ve been where they dropped me before. This election, if they like, let them do anything about people who are around me. “I’ll get there.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission found Okupe guilty of 26 of the 59 accusations brought against him (EFCC).
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had decided that the 26 offenses, which attracted a two-year jail term apiece, would run consecutively.
