Reports have it that, on Tuesday night some Suspected cultists wielding dangerous weapons, killed a tricycle operator at the back gate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe university. They Allegedly accosted the tricycle operator while he was returning from work and shot him.
According to an eyewitness, students have been living in fear, as there have been several incidents of students being Killed.
An eyewitness, who is a student at the university, said, “Residents and students are currently living in fear due to the incessant killings and shootings.
“For the past two or three days, there have been records of young people being gunned down and that of today (Tuesday) has happened at Unizik school gate in Ifite, Awka.”
The police spokesperson of the Anambra state police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident and said that some men from other commands have been deployed to the area, as investigation reveals that the killings are a result of cult groups clash. He further assured residents that security has been intensified within the state.
“Our operatives have been deployed in the area and the situation is closely monitored. Preliminary information showed that the shooting is a result of a cult-related clash between two rival groups.
“Police patrols have been intensified within Awka and other parts of the state,” he said.
