The federal government has narrowed its search for a new and substantive accountant-general of the federation, AGF, to 20 applicants.

According to a government circular, the 20 candidates were chosen from ministries,
departments, and agencies, or MDAs.

Remember that Ahmed Idris, the former AGF, was arrested in Kano after failing to reply to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitations to answer questions over an alleged N109 billion scam.

Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, suspended
Idris indefinitely “without pay” two days later.

Chukwunyere Anamekwe, who was appointed to act in lieu of Idris, was also fired.
The government noted in the circular that the shortlist was based on reports from anti-corruption authorities on the screening of prospective candidates who applied to participate in the process for the appointment of a substantive AGF.

The accreditation process for the shortlisted candidates will begin today, January 9,
according to the announcement.

As a result, the shortlisted candidates are expected to attend the accreditation exercise, which will be held from Monday, January 9th to Wednesday, January 11th, 2023, at Olusegun Obasanjo Hall, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Federal Secretariat, Phase lI, Abuja, between 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day.

Mohammed Aminu Yara’abba (Federal Fire Service); Danladi Zakowi Comfort (Interior); Mahmud Adam Kambari (North East Development Commission); Mohammed Magaji. M. Doho (Interior); Waziri Amos Samuel (Agric and Rural Development); and Madein Oluwatoyin Sakirat are among those shortlisted (OHCSF).

Others are Adaramoye Joseph Oluwole (Humanitarian Affairs); Isa Abubakar (Science, Technology, and Innovation); Ogunsemowo Oladipupo Olakunle (Environment); Egbokale Kadiri Charity (Nigerian Football Federation); and Ibrahim Saadiyya Jibo (Nigerian Football Federation) (National Boundary Commission).
