Peter Obi Makes a Statement on The 53rd Anniversary of the Nigerian Civil War

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to
join hands with utmost sincerity and commitment to preventing any serious violence in the country, let alone another civil war as the presidential elections draws near.
Mr. Obi had given the admonition on Sunday, January 15 in a message to Nigerians to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the end of the Nigerian Civil War, (the Biafran War) which he titled “Nation building and Ordered Society Are Imperative”.

Between July 6, 1967, and January 15, 1970, Nigerian forces fought the Republic of
Biafra, a secessionist state which had declared its independence from Nigeria under the leadership of Late Cl. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

Obi had also said that the task of securing and uniting Nigeria should be the only option for citizens, adding that leaders and people of different sections of Nigeria had done well, especially in the years immediately after the war.

The former Anambra governor then continued his message by saying that to continue to ‘fight the civil war’ today, after 53 years, would be a great disservice to Nigeria and Nigerians, especially our heroes who diligently labored to secure and unite the country”.
