The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission have formed a new cooperation (NLRC). This collaboration was formed after both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, January 18 in Abuja intending to halt the operation of prohibited lottery and gaming practices on telecoms platforms through information and intelligence sharing.

According to a statement made available to Legit.ng, the NCC’s executive chairman,
Prof. Umar Danbatta, said the cooperation will help put the commission’s strategic
vision plan into action while also fostering seamless operation in the gaming and lottery industry.

He noted that the agreement with the NLRC was in accordance with the commission’s SVP for 2021-2025 to promote effective service delivery to customers.

In response to the new agreement, the NLRC’s director-general, Mr. Lanre
Gbajabiamila, expressed confidence that the MoU will serve as a long-term solution in limiting the activities of illicit gaming and lottery platforms. According to Gbajabiamila, the actions of these firms are a stain on the smooth operation of the global gaming market, which also affects the integrity of other eligible parties. He stated that this new engagement with the NCC will assist eliminate such inclinations and build trust among consumers, stakeholders, and industry operators.

In response to this development, Barr. Adeleke Adewolu, executive commissioner
(stakeholder management), stated that the new revised partnership was intended to
address issues of consumer satisfaction. As a result, the MoU will serve as a regulatory tool to promote normalcy, justice, and integrity in the gaming and lottery industries by utilizing information-sharing technologies.
