On Monday, a gunman killed seven people before being apprehended in California, just two days after an 11-person massacre at a renowned dance hall.
The most recent attacks occurred in two distinct sites in Half Moon Bay, a seaside city about 30 miles (50 kilometers) south of San Francisco.
Zhao Chunli, a 67-year-old local, was recognized as the attacker.
It comes as the state mourns the deaths in majority-Asian Monterey Park during Lunar New Year celebrations.
About two hours after the incident, the suspect was recorded by TV cameras handing himself into the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The first four victims were discovered at about 14:22 local time (00:22 GMT) in a mushroom field, while the other three were later discovered at a nearby trucking company.
The motivation for this attack has yet to be revealed by investigators.
According to San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus, the man was detained at about 16:40 after driving himself to a local police station.
He was discovered carrying a semi-automatic pistol that may have been used in the attack and is currently “cooperating” with authorities, according to her.
Mrs. Corpus further stated that an eighth person is in severe condition and is being treated at a hospital.
