A coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs), the Civil Society Coalition for Economic Well-Being and Good Governance, has given President Muhammadu Buhari a 78-hour deadline to end fuel scarcity or face major protests.

On Thursday, the organization stated that they had assessed the dreadful trend of gasoline scarcity and emphasized the failings of some senior executives who are responsible for the never-ending scarcity of fuel.

In a communique published following a one-day meeting on Wednesday and made available to journalists on Thursday in Abuja, the coalition demanded the resignation of Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum, within 78 hours, failing which they said would be one of the reasons for mass protest.

The communique, signed by Mr. Garba Danzi, Chairman; Ayodele Hughes, Secretary-General; and two other executives, bemoaned Nigerians’ inability to access petrol across the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The statement also urged President Buhari to dismantle the recently formed steering committee, of which he appointed himself as chairman, citing his commitment to the electioneering campaign to address the gasoline crisis.
