Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) troops, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have killed a Boko Haram commander and 31 other terrorists in Borno State’s Konduga Council.
The commander, Abu Iliya, was slain on Saturday when troops assaulted the insurgents’ hideaway in Sambisa Forest’s Kayamari-Habasha-Yuwe axis.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, revealed in Maiduguri yesterday that the military achieved the accomplishment after an intelligence-led patrol of the terrorists’ camps in three villages.
According to a military source in Maiduguri, the army successfully destroyed the rebels, while other insurgents fled in disorder when confronted with superior gunfire.
According to the source, the heated combat that lasted over an hour resulted in the terrorists’ guns and other belongings being abandoned in the communities.
The troops also destroyed 50 bicycles found at the hideout, according to Makama.
Major General Ibrahim Ali, the recently appointed Theatre Commander of OPHK, vowed to continue the forces’ efforts to bring the insurgency to a conclusion. He stated that all hands must be on deck to put an end to the terrorism that has claimed many lives and property in the region.
