The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reported that it had apprehended Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, a user of the Twitter handle @SimisolaGold, who was selling brand-new naira notes online.

The ICPC claims that on February 1st, its agents located and detained the suspect as a result of intelligence reports.

The ICPC spokeswoman Azuka Ogugua made this information public in a statement.

Oluwadarasimi Emma, a social media “serial entrepreneur” who works in skincare, petrol sales, facilitating international travel by obtaining visas, and other companies, exploited the opportunity of the new naira notes’ shortage to openly promote them, according to part of the statement.

According to the anti-corruption organization, Oluwadarasimi is now being held in custody and is assisting the Commission with its conclusions regarding the illegal trading of the naira and the resulting scarcity and unfavorable economic effects.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the ICPC have been working together to implement a new cashless policy and redesign the naira. The ICPC stated that its action is in furtherance of that collaboration.
