13 political parties out of the 18 political parties in Nigeria had on Monday, February 7 threatened to withdraw from participating in the 2023 general polls on February 25 and March 11 respectively if the Central Bank of Nigeria again extends the deadline of February 10 for the new naira swap.
The coalition of chairmen of the political parties had praised President Buhari on the redesign of the N200, N500, and N1,000 banknotes and had argued that the policy must stand.
The coalition parties had additionally lambasted the Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara state governments for heading to the Supreme Court to get a court injunction to extend the deadline for the old naira notes.
Kenneth Udenze, the National Chairman of the Action Alliance, who had briefed pressmen on their latest agreement had said, “We hereby announce that out of the 18 political parties in Nigeria, at least 13 will not be participating in the 2023 general elections if the recent currency policies are suspended, canceled or if the deadline is extended again.”
