In all our years of practicing democracy in Nigeria, elections have never been truly free and fair, as each party would share a certain amount of money for persons to vote for their parties on election day, this is known as vote buying.

However, this election which would make it the 24th year of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria will be a bit different, due to the cash scarcity and monetary policies imposed on Nigerian citizens by CBN Governor.

N32,400m was intercepted by Men of the Economic and  Financial Crime Commission on Friday as they suspect that the money is to be used for vote buying.

Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson of the EFCC revealed this information on Friday, according to him, the suspect has been taken for questioning.

Speaking on the issue, Abdulrasheed Bawa, the EFCC chairman has said that men of the EFCC are actively working in all states to see that there’s no incident of vote buying.

He further said that their telephone hotlines have been uploaded to all social media platforms for members of the public to disclose information as regards financial malpractice, and further details have been made available io. The EFCC Social media platforms.

He further assured members of the public to feel free to report anyone involved in vote buying or selling, by making use of the EFCC reporting app.

Uwujaren added, “Tactical teams of operatives are currently on the ground in all the states of the federation and the FCT.

“Telephone hotlines have already been circulated through social media for members of the public to share information regarding financial malpractices with agents of the commission. Details of the number are available on EFCC’s social media platforms.

“Members of the public are encouraged to report anyone trying to buy or sell votes by making use of the EFCC financial crimes reporting App, Eagle Eye, which is available for download on the Google Play or Apple store.

They can also reach the commission through our social media handle, @officialefcc, or by email, info@efcc.gov.ng.”

The government is serious as regards this election, they want it to be free and fair as possible, with no fraud.
