Violence has forced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone voting in 141 polling places in Yenagoa, the state capital of Bayelsa.

Also, the commission postponed the poll in Edo State’s Esan, Igueben Federal Constituency.

The postponement affects the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the region, and the elections would be held today, according to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, who made these comments at the second media briefing in Abuja (Sunday).

Yakubu claimed that in Yenagoa, the procedure was interrupted in Wards 4, 6, 8, and 14, but that the security personnel overcome the difficulties.

He claimed that the INEC ad-hoc workers voiced uncertainty about returning to conduct the elections, which made the postponement necessary.

He said that the failure to include a party’s emblem on ballot papers was the cause of the suspension in the Esan North, Esan South, and Igueben.

Yakubu said that the Federal Constituency election would now take place on March 11 in conjunction with the governorship and state assembly elections.

Yakubu reminded Nigerians that INEC was devoted to preventing any Nigerian from being denied the right to vote.
