Villagers said on Sunday that more than 17 people were slain in a new attack on Saturday night on Ungwan Wkakili hamlet, Atyap Chiefdom in Kaduna State’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, with several others injured to varying degrees.

While speaking to newsmen, Francis Sani Zimbo, Chairman of the Zangon Kataf Local Government Council, strongly condemned the attack, stating that an inquiry to identify the perpetrators has begun with the goal of bringing the offenders to justice.

He pondered why the mobile police checkpoints in the affected neighborhoods had been removed prior to Saturday night’s attack, giving the assailants a free hand to carry out their evil deeds.

Some residents were upset that the attack lasted so long despite the presence of the military in the neighborhood

Meanwhile, Kaduna State police have verified a new attack on Zango Kataf Local Government Area on Saturday night.

The attack occurred at 20:40hrs in Ungwan Wakili, according to SP Muhammad Jalije, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

Jalije stated that the police had been managing the security situation in the area previous to last night’s attacks, following the killing of a herder in the jungle four days ago.
