Popular Nigeria Afrobeat singer, Divine Ikubor, Popularly known by his stage name Rema, revealed that he got admission into the University of Lagos in 2022, but dropped the idea of going to school due to the 8 months of ASUU strike.

According to him, it was his mother’s wish that he continues his schooling. Initially, he had in mind to strategize how he was going to combine music with schooling but the eight months strike discouraged him, and his mum is cool with his decision.

“I got admission last year but I bailed on it. I bailed on it because they went on strike,” he said.

“So they are back but it took a couple of months. But I wanted to really like strategize how I was going to do part-time schooling and touring but the whole strike made it look awkward. It was like a glitch so I just had to move on from it.”

“So are you gonna pass on it?” the host asked.

“I’m going to pass on it,” Rema replied. “Because right now, life is crazy, life is fast. So, Yeah! Right now, I’m full of music, I told my mum.”

ASUU went on an eight months strike, it started as two weeks warning strike but progressed into an eight months strike which is the longest so far in Nigerian history, students were kept at home for eight months, some went to learn a trade, some sought jobs while some stayed at home for the duration of the eight months strike. It discouraged many jambites as the issue of ASUU and strike is unending.
