News about security agents misusing ammunition given to them for citizens’ protection is no longer new, the case of the Lagos Barrister who was shot by a police officer for absolutely no reason, rocked the internet for a while and the case is still in court, now we have another case of such nature.
Three Beninios family members in the Banana area of Borgu LGA in Niger state were killed by a soldier on Friday.
According to an eyewitness, the family which consists of the man, his wife, and their child were returning from the Banana market in Niganji in Benin Republic, the soldier and the man had a slight altercation and then the soldier raised his him to threaten the man but ended up killing the entire family.
“The soldier killed three people, a man, his wife, and their baby who went to the Babana market from Niganji in Benin Republic to trade. The incident occurred on their way back from the market.
“The man and the soldier were engaged in an argument when the soldier threatened him with a gun and in the process shot at them by mistake, killing three of them on the spot”
Alhaji Sulieman Yarima, the Chairman of the LGA, knowing that such an accident can lead to civil unrest, has appealed to the residents of the community to maintain calm as the Nigerian Army is already on the matter.
The soldier in question is currently in detention in Momma Military Confinement.
