In some states, Vigilantes Operatives are barred from carrying guns because of the way they misuse the opportunity and they end up carrying out the duties of policemen which is beyond their scope of power.
In Abia state, Izuchukwu Mbakwe, a staff member of De Choice eatery was shot by Abia State Vigilante, after being accused of stealing the company’s Nokia phone torchlight.
Mbakwe who came to work on Monday to carry out his normal duties was arrested by Abia State Vigilante after the Internal Auditor of the place Mbakwe worked called the Vigilante group to arrest Mbakwe for stealing the company’s phone.
The Vigilante arrested him, tortured him, stripped him of his clothes, and then went ahead to shoot him on his lap with a Pump Action Rifle which injured his femoral Artery.
He was immediate to Federal Medical Centre Umuahia but was referred to a specialist hospital before they could arrive there, he died on the way.
