Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s suspended national chairman, was replaced by Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum on Tuesday by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Damagum serves as the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North).
Remember that Ayu was suspended by the PDP’s Executive Committee of the Igyorov Council Ward of Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State on Monday, and a Makurdi High Court issued an order of interim injunction prohibiting him from representing himself as the party’s national chairman.
The court prohibited him from misrepresenting himself as the party’s national chairman while the motion on notice already filed was being heard and decided. He had previously lost his membership in the party.
After the court’s ruling, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP recognized the order of the Makurdi State High Court, dated March 27, 2023, regarding the party chairmanship position during an emergency meeting on Tuesday.
