Chrisland High School in Ikeja has been placed on probation by the Lagos State Government for one academic session to monitor adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
This is in response to the death of Whitney Adeniran, a student at the school who died during an inter-house sports tournament at the Agege Stadium in the state’s Agege Local Government Area.
The school was placed on probation, according to a press release posted on the Lagos state government’s official website.
According to the statement, the probation was announced by the State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, during a recent meeting between the management of Chrisland schools and government agencies under the Lagos State Joint Task Force in charge of implementing the child protection and safeguarding policy.
The government also directed Chrisland Schools’ management to conduct immediate and long-term school governance improvements.
It also directed the school’s administration to hire a certified risk manager to conduct and report on a detailed risk management analysis of the group of schools, as well as to ensure that all students, staff, and stakeholders of the school affected by the death of the late Miss Adeniran receive psycho-social therapy and trauma counseling.
Ibironke Adeyemi, Managing Director of Chrisland Schools, who led Chrisland School management to the meeting, assured that the school will meet all standards imposed by the ministry.
