The Federal Government of Nigeria has made a statement, stating that their offices have received a letter of solicitation from Nigerian students in Sudan, asking the FG to evacuate them and any other Nigerians that may be trapped, especially in the country’s capital of Khartoum.
The Chairwoman for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has also added her voice to the outcry, stating that the plight of the students trapped in Sudan was of serious concern to her and the nation at large. She appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which is historically in charge of emergency evacuations to consult with the Nigerian mission in Sudan to facilitate a quick getaway for their citizens.
It must be noted that the current conflict in the African country is caused by the clash between the Sudanese Army and one paramilitary group known as the Rapid Support Forces.
