It was a celebration galore as 376 Nigerians, the first batch of evacuees from Sudan arrived in Nigeria late Wednesday night, between the hours of 11:30 pm and 11:54 pm.
Since then, a lot of the evacuees, have spoken with news reporters at the airport, giving their own unique experiences and their fear that they would never get to see the motherland again.
One of the evacuees, a 32-year-old woman, Zainab Haruna, had disclosed that she had lost hope of survival in Sudan, as she had been going incommunicado and without water for several days before her rescue.
Another returnee, Clement Mustapha, who had only recently come to Sudan to study for a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Studies remarked that the country was like hell for him. Mustapha had also disclosed that at some point, he was compelled to say his last prayers and then wait for the worst to happen.
