Spain’s Opposition Party Dominates Election Polls

The latest election poll has confirmed Spain’s conservative People’s Party (PP) commanding lead over the ruling Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE). The poll, conducted by the esteemed El Pais newspaper, leaves no doubt that the PP is poised to claim the majority of seats in the lower house of parliament, surpassing their rivals with ease.

According to the poll’s estimations, the PP is expected to secure between 128 and 142 seats in the 350-member lower house. This represents a significant boost compared to their previous tally of 131 seats in the earlier poll conducted between May 31 and June 1. Meanwhile, the floundering PSOE is predicted to claim between 99 and 109 seats, a clear indication of their waning influence.

The possibility of an alliance between the PP and the far-right Vox party looms large, with projections suggesting they could secure between 37 and 41 seats. This formidable partnership would surpass the absolute majority of 176 seats required to govern effectively.

Prime Minister Sanchez’s decision to call a snap election following his party’s humiliating defeat in regional and municipal ballots appears increasingly ill-conceived. The upcoming July 23 election now stands as a pivotal moment, presenting voters with a binary choice between those opposed to a government involving Vox and those against the incumbent coalition.

As the election draws near, the remaining seats are likely to be claimed by small regionalist parties, further solidifying the triumph of the resurgent conservative front.
