At least 102 trapped Nigerians evacuated from Libya on Wednesday, June 21, have been received by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, in Lagos State.

According to a statement released by NEMA, the returnees were officially received by the Director-General, NEMA, Mr Mustapha Ahmed, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Out of the 102 returnees, 96 persons had been females. The rest were males (2) and infants (4).

The statement had revealed that the returnees had arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos State, on Tuesday evening, June 20, aboard an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG- the same airplane that had previously evacuated about 108 persons from Libya earlier in the month.

It quoted the DG as saying that the federal government was committed to ensuring that Nigerian citizens were protected anywhere they find themselves.

The evacuation move that has been ongoing since this month is reportedly a part of President Bola Tinubu’s vision to focus more on the youths and their empowerment-something that would be incomplete if a lot of the nation’s youths are stuck elsewhere in the world-, with the view to imbibe their energy and technological skills into developing the country, as well as improving the economy and making it beneficial to everyone.
