The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international watchdog focused on combating financial crime, announced on Friday that it has included Croatia, along with Cameroon and Vietnam, in its “grey list” of countries subject to heightened scrutiny.
With this inclusion, Croatia becomes the sole EU member state on the list, which already includes the United Arab Emirates, Panama, and Mali.
The FATF, based in Paris, serves as an inter-governmental organization that supports the global fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. It establishes international standards and assesses countries’ adherence to them.
During its recent plenary meeting, the FATF emphasized the importance of all jurisdictions remaining vigilant against the circumvention of measures taken against the Russian Federation to safeguard the international financial system. It should be noted that Russia’s membership was suspended by the FATF back in February.
