MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), the most-followed individual on YouTube, disclosed that he had turned down an invitation to join the ill-fated Titanic submersible. Last week, tragedy struck as OceanGate’s Titan submersible experienced an implosion during a voyage to the wreckage site of the Titanic, resulting in the loss of five lives.
MrBeast took to Twitter to share a screenshot of a text message, claiming it was proof of his invitation to the vessel. Alongside the image, he expressed, “I was invited earlier this month to ride the Titanic submarine, I said no. Kind of scary that I could have been on it.”
The identity of the individual extending the invitation to MrBeast for the submersible journey remains unclear.
Renowned for his extravagant competitions and high-budget endeavors, such as his own rendition of Squid Game, paying an assassin to target him, and even being buried alive, MrBeast boasts a staggering 162 million YouTube subscribers.
Interestingly, this revelation follows news that documentary filmmaker and former EastEnders actor Ross Kemp had also declined an opportunity to embark on the submersible. Kemp had initially planned to partake in a deep-diving expedition last year for a program commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Titanic’s tragic sinking. However, after conducting thorough assessments, the production company involved in the documentary deemed it too hazardous to board the submersible, with Kemp’s agent stating concerns about its safety on “every level.”
