Blackout Plagues Kogi Community

Residents of NASFAT community, Felele phase II, in Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital, have bemoaned the lack of electricity supply by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, for several months.

Hon Sani Ibrahim and Raji Omuya, the Chairman Committee on Electricity, had made this cry for help on Monday, July 3 via a Save Our Soul letter written and addressed to the Lokoja office of AEDC.

In the letter, the group had complained that the development was bringing destitution to the area and immobilising economic activities altogether.

Hoodlums were reported to have been capitalizing on the lack of power to carry out all forms of Illicit activities in the area.

The community had then appealed to the AEDC and Governor Yahaya Bello to provide a new transformer for them so they could enjoy the basic amenity their neighbours also enjoyed.

The letter reads partly:

All we are begging for is a new transformer to solve our electricity issue. Contributions have been made within ourselves to reinstate power back to our community but this problem is far above us, that is why we are making this appeal so that AEDC and Governor Bello will rescue us from these long months of darkness and hardship.

As a letter has been drafted and sent out to the aforementioned persons, a solution will hopefully come for the community.

It is a thing of sadness that in the year 2023, citizens are without the most basic equipment, transformers- equipment for reducing or increasing the voltage of an alternating current. The issue of then having electricity even when the transformer(s) are provided is problem as old as Nigeria.
