A gun battle had broken out in Oke-Fia neighbourhood in Osogbo, Osun State between the National Immigration Services and the Western Nigerian Security Network, aka Amotekun in the Oke-Fia neighbourhood in Osogbo, Osun State on Wednesday, July 5.

According to eyewitness reports, the problem had begun after a NIS officer was detained at the Amotekun office at the Government House Annex for reportedly insulting the Amotekun boss, who had reportedly violated a traffic law.

It was said that the incident occurred on Wednesday after the convoy of the Amotekun Corps-Commandant, Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewimbi (rtd) was travelling through the Ola-Iya axis and allegedly violated the traffic regulations.

The situation had prompted the Immigration officer to track down the Amotekun officers to their base where he had then allegedly, disparaged the convoy drivers and their boss.

This greatly infuriated the Amotekun commandant who ordered for the Immigration officer to be detained.

But the officer had called for reinforcement before he was detained.

As at the time of filing this report, some shops still remain closed due to residual fear over the gun battle that had lasted several minutes in the popular area.

Patrol vans of operatives of NIS and Amotekun had also been spotted inside the Government House annex premises.

When contacted by news men, the spokesperson of Amotekun, Yusuf Idowu had confirmed the development on Thursday, July 6 via a telephone conversation.

He had additionally revealed that the clash had been settled as the leadership of the two agencies had hosted a meeting to this effect.

Thankfully, no lives were lost as a result of the ‘irresponsible’ display of power between the two security forces.
