Police officials in Ebonyi State had on Friday, July 7, publicised the arrest of 15 individuals suspected to be involved in the shooting by purported members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Tuesday, July 4, at Ishieke and the new market axis of the state.

According to reports, the nabbed suspects, while trying to impose the seven days sit-at-home order by IPOB, had shot randomly at residents, hindering many from leaving their homes.

Meanwhile, Mr Faleye Olayele, the Commissioner of Police in the state, had told news reporters in Abakaliki that two out of the 15 suspects arrested, were herbalists named Okwudili Otozi and Nnenna Ali.

According to Olayele, the suspects were preparing for another attack on Friday, July 7, when they were caught and apprehended by the police after a tip-off was made.

While cautioning miscreants to be wary of Ebonyi State, Olayele had remarked that one of the herbalists apprehended, had claimed that he had been compelled to join the gang.

Of late, the activities of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB have been getting out of hand. The sit-at-home directive seems to be cropping up on an almost daily basis.

Meanwhile, South-Eastern governors, while trying their best appear to be at their wit’s end in the face of all these.

Can and will the Nigerian government step in to prevent the further loss of lives and stop the economic setback that is often the case on such mandated days in the region?
