Alhaji Abba Almustapha, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Censorship Board, has sought the cooperation of the State Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice to curb the unrestrained misuse of social media handles as well as the production of anti-religious/cultural films in the State.

Almustapha who spoke on Saturday, August 5, during a courtesy call on the State Attorney General, had revealed that there was the important need for a review of the board’s 2019 amendment law on censorship.

According to Almustapha, the exploitation of social media handles was on the increase, therefore there was the need to incorporate them in the law. This law will extend to Islamic singers as well as to WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter and Tiktok.

Almustapha added that
Printers, photo laboratories and games centers had also been suggested to be included in the planned amendment.

The State Attorney General, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi has meanwhile, made assurances that the government would revaluate the Kano State Censorship Board Law, especially as the key responsibility of the Kano State Censorship Board was to guarantee that movies and other literary works in the state were created according to the religion, culture and the established law.
