Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, had on Monday, August 7, hurried over to the Presidential Villa shortly after a disorderly session at the Senate over the screening of a ministerial nominee, Festus Keyamo happened.

Godswill Akpabio had been seen at about 2:55pm with Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele at the villa.

The lawmakers who left about an hour later had not addressed the press at the time of their departure.

The agenda of the Senate President at the Villa is still yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report but it is likely connected to an altercation that happened on the floor of the Senate on Monday afternoon.

It was said that the Senate exploded into a messy session when a Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, passed the motion for the adjournment of Keyamo’s ministerial screening.

A noticeably perturbed Nwokocha had claimed that Keyamo was ridiculing the 9th National Assembly and accusing the last Assembly of being dishonest.

Nwokocha had remarked that during the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Keyamo was asked to explain a Special Public Works programme but he had not accepted the invitation.

Nwokocha’s motion had been quickly seconded by his colleague Enyinnaya Abaribe, from Abia-South Senatorial District.

The Senate President afterwards subjected the motion to a voice vote but the lawmakers were nog united on the matter.

The red chamber consequently erupted into a rowdy session.
