Kayode Egbetokun, the Acting Inspector General of Police, has divulged plans to establish a Special Intervention Squad to curb the insecurity in the country.
Egbetokun had made this revelation when he led the police force management team on a courtesy visit to the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf on Saturday at the Government House.
He had appealed for support from the Kano State government in order to move forward with his plans. Kano is projected to be the pilot state for this project.
In Egbetokun’s words:
“I decided to set up a squad called the Special Intervention Squad to quickly intercede during a crisis, so that in situations where there is a crisis or violent crime, we have a committed squad that can easily be dispatched to tackle the challenges.”
The AIG had also emphasised the importance for a new security squad and he had also remarked that its success would depend on the cooperation and aid from the Kano State government.
In response, the governor had acknowledged the political commitment shown by the present police management in the continuous fight against insecurity, kidnapping and armed robbery in the country.
Governor Yusuf had remarked that due to the efforts of the police force, certain security challenges had drastically reduced since the dawn of the new administration.
Governor Yusuf further went on to say that the Kano State government would keep supporting the police, so they in turn, will continue to perform optimally.
